I will be conducting an independent research study on how Germany鈥檚 history of unethical medical research has shaped its contemporary biomedical ethics and research regulations. I plan to spend nine days traveling through Germany鈥攆rom Berlin to Frankfurt, Nuremberg, and Munich鈥攙isiting historical sites and archives, and engaging with leading professionals in the field of historical bioethics. These insights gained from this experience will culminate in a literature review, which I plan to submit for publication and present at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in the Fall.

This summer, I am conducting research at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogot谩, Colombia, where I am contributing to two sustainable engineering projects. The first focuses on the development of 3D-printed earthen structures for affordable housing in a vulnerable community. The second explores seismic reinforcement techniques for traditional rammed-earth walls using textile-reinforced mortar (TRM). I look forward to learning about different alternatives for structural resilience with a sustainable and affordable emphasis.

The frontier fellowship has allowed me the opportunity to shadow Doctor Adelin Muganza, the acting academic head department of surgery, at Gauteng Province Health in Sandton, South Africa. During my time there I will gain hands-on experiences working with patients, learn clinical skills in a hospital setting, and gain cultural perspectives in the healthcare field.
